Winter 2025 parish council newsletter

Chairman’s comments

Welcome to this edition of the Parish Council Newsletter. It is four months since our last issue and time to bring us all up to date.

Traffic management in the village is a regular item on our agenda and since our last Newsletter the results of the 20mph limit consultation have been released by the Westmorland and Furness Council. The response rate was over 50% and as about three quarters of those were in favour of a 20mph limit in our village, W&FC have commenced legal processes to bring this about.

A review of the effects of the trial no parking cones placed by the Playing Fields earlier this year has been undertaken with the result that a white line will be put on the road at that location. We are grateful for a £500 donation from W&F Councillor Janet Battye’s Locality allowance to cover most of the cost. The proposed footpath down Levens Lane will shortly receive further consideration by W&FC.

The defibrillator on the wall of the Levens Institute is life expired and the Levens Charity will pay for a replacement unit to be located in the centre of the village.

The Levens Community Project continues to make progress with a water supply to the proposed properties at Underhill having been installed. Preparations for the electric supply are to be made in the near future.

It is a legal requirement for dogs to be kept on lead on roads within 30mph speed limits. This really means all dogs should be on leads on all village roads. If you love your dog, please keep it on a lead.

‘Hot off the Press’ news is that the Christmas Tree Lights Switch On will take place at 5pm on Sunday 30th November.

Finally, this is the last newsletter of 2025 and so I conclude with an early ‘Seasons Greetings’ and we are always pleased to hear any thoughts you may have about our village.
