Public Consultation Opens on Possible 20mph Speed Limit in Levens

As part of a wider Westmorland and Furness Council programme, residents are invited to give their views during a public consultation - online survey linked below - running from Wednesday 4 June to Friday 18 July. Your feedback will help shape the final decision and determine whether the village proceeds as part of the multi-year rollout.

The official proposal map for Levens, used in the consultation, is provided by Westmorland and Furness Council with permission - it originates from the proposal documents section on the 20mph speed limit consultation page.

Printed materials will also be available locally, and a drop-in session with the Westmorland and Furness team will be held at Kendal Town Hall on Tuesday 8 July from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

The scheme aims to promote road safety, reduce traffic noise, and support walking and cycling. Final decisions will depend on the level of local support and feasibility within the Council’s phased rollout.

Background

Levens Parish Council has provisionally secured funding to reduce speed limits in parts of the village to 20mph. While Levens is not part of the first year of delivery (2024–25), the scheme is under consideration for implementation in 2025–26 or 2026–27, subject to community support and prioritisation.
