Levens Women's Institute

Following a very happy celebration of our 100th anniversary in Autumn 2017, there is a sad and unexpected change in circumstances.

As from January 2018, Levens WI
is in suspension. If there is interest in reforming this group, whether from people new to the village, or those here who think they might like to try a new aspect of life with some good friends, please contact Jill Butterworth 015395 61676 or jill.butterworth54@btinternet.com

There are other WIs nearby at Heversham, Brigsteer, Crosthwaite, Witherslack, Crook and Cartmel Fell.

The original aim of the Women’s Institute was to provide an educational and social organisation for country women giving them the opportunity of improving the quality of rural life. This is now extended to include women who have an interest in country matters but do not necessarily live in the country. Equally important are the ideals of ‘fellowship, truth, tolerance and justice.’

More Information

The Women's Institute is a three tier organisation comprising:
  • National Federation with an elected Board of Trustees   (NFWI)
  • County Federation with an elected Federation Executive Committee  (CWFWI)
  • The Institutes with their own elected committees.
Cumbria - Westmorland Federation
Various meetings and outings are arranged throughout the year for all members.

Denman College
This is near Oxford and belongs to the National Federation. Members can attend courses or stay for private visits
