Hyper-fast internet in Levens

Goodbye 2Mbps*. Hello 1000Mbps!
Slow internet connections will soon be a thing of the past in our village.

1000Mbps may seem a lot today, but once you experience it you'll not want to go back!

How do I get B4RN?

As of 18th April there are 36 households connected to B4RN in Levens. Will you be next?

Welcome to the Levens B4RN project

Volunteers neatly installing conduit to a house
Making hyper-fast internet connections available in Levens is a community project spearheaded by a local group of volunteers. Their aim is to achieve a village-wide rollout of B4RN's gigabit internet connections to future-proof villagers' online experience.

B4RN (Broadband for [4] the Rural North) is a professionally designed fibre optic broadband network. They are a registered non-profit community benefit society and offer 1000Mbps FTTP (fibre to the property) broadband to every property in their coverage area costing households just £30 per month.

Route progress + do you know which route you are on?

Picture
Starting in early 2021, the rollout of B4RN continues in earnest in Levens. Some properties will have infrastructure installed via surrounding fields, but in more central areas B4RN will employ a trenching technique through pavements, verges, and roads, using defined routes that will make an FTTP (fibre to the property) broadband connection possible to every resident in the village.

Each route has a designated Levens village volunteer coordinator who has taken on the task of liaising with each household who has signed up. It is the household's responsibility to install ducting from the boundary into their house. The coordinator will advise you on what is required to achieve this.

Behind the scenes!

Since 2016, there have been a phenomenal amount of volunteer hours dedicated to the project to make it a reality. Here's a short, interactive timeline of the key points along the Levens B4RN project timeline to date.

*2Mbps is an accurate representation of what some (outlying) households in Levens Parish can currently achieve. The average within much of the centre of the village is only ~30Mbps.
