The Parish Church of Levens is built on an elevated site with views across the estuary. As people drive along the A590 and notice the church building we hope they have a reminder of God's presence in the world. We look north to the fells and southwest to Morecambe Bay. Find us at St John’s Church, Church Road, Levens, Cumbria LA8 8PV
Who we are
We are a community of people drawn together by God’s love in Jesus Christ. Together we seek to offer our lives to God in worship and in service. We try to share with one another the love that we receive from God, and we try to share God’s love with all who are our “neighbours” We are part of the Church of England in the diocese of Carlisle this means that we are part of the Anglican Communion (including for example the Episcopal Church of the United Sates of America and the Episcopal Church of Scotland). We are part of the developing Kent Estuary Mission Community.
The church is currently in an interregnum and will eventually become part of the United Benefice of Heversham, Levens, and Milnthorpe. In Levens there are two Honorary Readers (lay ministers - not ordained) Frances Makin and Mary Orr and a Local Lay Minister Pam Martin (young families and young people). The Reverend Canon Tom Thompson is a retired priest who lives in Levens and assists regularly in our worship. Jean Hayton and Peter Martin are Churchwardens and many other people are involved in the life of the parish and community. The church has a Parochial Church Council (PCC) with members ex officio or elected by the congregation. The PCC makes decisions about the life and ministry of the Church and care of the building.

To find out more about the Christian Faith we commend to you 'REJESUS'
Rejesus is a web site endorsed by mainstream Christian denominations in the UK.
Rejesus has a single focus - it goes to the very heart of Christian life and faith - the person of Jesus Christ himself.
Its aim is to reach people who have little previous knowledge of Jesus or the Christian faith and to encourage a step or two of faith. Why don't you try it and see?

It is always a privilege to help people in the joys and sorrows of life. When some one you love has died it can be a difficult time. At St John's we try to help people after someone has died in the planning of a funeral. The funeral can be in church at the crematorium or by the graveside. If you would like to look at what is involved in planning a funeral please contact churchwarden as above or look at the Church of England's helpful website by clicking the logo below.
As a Church we give some of our money to support various charitable work locally and internationally.
