LEVENS WI
The original aim of the Women’s Institute was to provide an educational and social organisation for country women giving them the opportunity of improving the quality of rural life. This is now extended to include women who have an interest in country matters but do not necessarily live in the country. Equally important are the ideals of ‘fellowship, truth, tolerance and justice.’
The Women's Institute is a three tier organisation comprising:
- National Federation with an elected Board of Trustees (NFWI)
- County Federation with an elected Federation Executive Committee (CWFWI)
- The Institutes with their own elected committees.
Within our Cumbria-Westmorland Federation (CWFWI) there are 15 Groups each comprising 5 or 6 neighbouring WI’s. Our Group consists of Levens, Brigsteer, Crosthwaite, Witherslack, Crook and Cartmel Fell.
Meetings: 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Village Institute at 7.30. We arrange talks on a wide range of topics. Tea, biscuits and a raffle prize are provided at every meeting for 20p. The annual subscription for 2012 is £31.50
