LEVENS PARISH COUNCIL – WINTER NEWSLETTER 2012
Village Wheels from Levens Village to Milnthorpe
From 20th February 2012, a new initiative called “Village Wheels” will provide transport on a Friday between Levens Village and Milnthorpe.
To use “Village Wheels”, you will need to register and have a Rural Wheels travelcard which is used to pay for journeys. There is a simple application form to complete which can be done over the telephone or by post. When you register, you will need to pay an initial £5 which will be credited onto your travelcard. Once you have your travelcard, you will be able to use the Friday Levens to Milnthorpe service at a flat fare of £2.00 return, and you can also continue to use the Rural Wheels for local ad-hoc appointments, public transport connections etc at a rate of 35p/ per mile (25p/per mile if sharing with other passengers).
The Friday Levens to Milnthorpe “Village Wheels” service will depart Levens Village Shop at 10am and return from Milnthorpe at 12 noon. The flat fare of £2 return is paid by Rural Wheels travelcard.
For more information, please see the flier which is included in this edition of the Parish News. You can also telephone Abby or Joanne at the Rural Wheels Planning Service on 0845 602 3786.
Village Wheels and Rural Wheels are provided by Cumbria County Council.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2-4 June 2012
To mark 60 years of The Queen's reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place in 2012. The celebrations will centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June. Thousands of beacons will be lit around the world on the 4th June 2012 to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen's 60 year reign over the UK and as head of the Commonwealth. Do you have any ideas on how you would like the people of Levens to commemorate this event? Please contact the clerk or speak to any councillor with your ideas.
SLDC, Local Area Development Framework -Allocations of Land
Update:
Following two major consultations in 2011, South Lakeland District Council approved the final Land Allocations Document for publication at a special meeting of Full Council on 18 January 2012. The publication will include SLDC’s finalised list of proposed land allocations and the policies that will guide development.
These are the land allocations for Levens. (73 dwellings)
1. R51M (land to the east of Greengate) has been included - 50 HOUSES SUGGESTED
2. RN121M MOD is a new label for what was RN121M (Poultry Farm) and part of RN121 (Bowker's Stables). It includes the stable buildings themselves but NOT the triangle of land past the stable buildings RN121M MOD has been included - 23 HOUSES SUGGESTED
RN123 (Bowker's Carpet shop site) this site is too small to be put forward as a residential allocation, however, it has been included under the “small sites” which are presumed to have residential potential. "The site may have potential for conversion or redevelopment for an estimated 4 to 6 dwellings"
RN123 comes under a different heading as indicated above, & therefore not included in the 73.
Developers have to consult the Community prior to putting in their planning application for the site.
The next stage of the document is a six-week formal representation period that takes place between February and March 2012. Members of the public and other interested parties will be able to make representations on whether the documents proposals are justified, effective and in line with strategic local and national policies. This is called soundness and includes issues such whether the correct procedures have been followed and whether the proposals are deliverable.
Highways
Cumbria County Council has made changes to its Highways Hotline to make it quicker, more resilient in an emergency and more cost effective. Changes will also enable call handling by people with local knowledge. Now, callers hear a menu of options which asks them to choose one of the six areas where the highway fault is being reported. This will send the call directly to the appropriate office, answered by highways staff in the local area. Highways Hotline number is 0845 6096609
Elections
The Notice of Election will be published, and sent to all parish clerks, around mid-March and nomination papers will be available once it has been published.
Parish Clerks will hold nomination papers or pick up a nomination pack from this SLDC if they wish.
Completed nomination papers must be submitted by noon on Wednesday, 4 April 2012. Any arriving after that time will not be accepted.
All Levens Parish Council meetings are open to the public, so we encourage you to come along and see what we do. Levens currently has 8 councillors, so if 8 or less nominations are submitted by the due time/date, then there would be no need to hold a poll. If more than 8 nominations are received then an election will be held on 3 May. For many years there have never been more than 8 nominations in Levens. If you, or someone you know, is willing to stand for LPC, then please contact the Clerk Anne Kerr, in the first instance, where more information is available.
