Local Development Framework Land Allocations Consultation,
South Lakeland District Council have now published emerging options for consultation
On 8 December 2010, the District Council’s Cabinet approved a report on the ‘Land Allocations – Emerging Options for Consultation’ document. The main purpose of the Land Allocations document is to allocate sites for housing, employment and other uses to meet communities' needs to 2025, in accordance with the overall requirements set out in the adopted Core Strategy
Any comments made on the document prior to the start of the public consultation will be accepted and taken into account, but you are encouraged to wait until all information is available. From 21 January, settlement fact files, which set out the information and reasons for suggesting sites will be available on the SLDC website.
Public consultation is currently planned to take place for 12 weeks between Friday 21 January and Friday 15 April 2011
The areas of land provisionally identified in Levens for development up to 2025 are as follows:
Areas suggested are: -
R51M – Land off Greengate Crescent 50 houses
R682LVM – Land off Brigsteer Road 24 houses
R71M – Land off Hutton Lane 10 houses
One area (R121M) is suggested for employment land

SLDC have arranged a consultation ‘drop in’ day to be held in Levens Institute on Monday 28th February 2011 between 13:30 – 19:30. From 19:30 onwards the Parish Council will hold a public meeting to hear the views of Levens residents.
Other consultation ‘drop in’ days will take place throughout South Lakeland during February and March, please consult the SLDC website or notices around Levens for further details.

Later Steps
When all comments have been considered, SLDC intends to prepare a final draft of the Land Allocations document. When published, there is a final statutory opportunity to make representations. When the Land Allocations document is submitted to the Secretary of State, an independent Inspector will be appointed to conduct a public examination into the soundness of the plan, taking account of the representations made when the final draft plan was published. After the Inspector’s (binding) report is received, the Council will consider adopting the Land Allocations Document
