LEVENS PARISH COUNCIL – AUTUMN NEWSLETTER 2010
Welcome to this our second newsletter after good feedback following our initial letter.
Many of you will have seen the recycling site has been cleared which will enable a topographical survey to take place maybe taking a small step forward to eventually planning a new village hall on the site. We are still in the process of registering parish land which is taking a little longer than expected but is moving forward.
Both of the above need to be completed before taking any more small steps to having our much awaited New Village Hall.
I would like to welcome David Martin of Lords Plain on to the Parish Council as a replacement for David Knipe who has moved away from the village. We thank David for many years hard work to the benefit of the village and wish him and the family good luck in their new home near Tebay.
Roger Mason Chairman
Levens Post Office
The Parish Council would like to thank Ken and Edna Ashcroft for their outstanding service to the village and Post Office for the past 28 years. We wish them well in their retirement.
A collection for Edna and Ken is being organised by Councillor Roger Atfield, please contact Roger at Central Stores for further details.
Local Development Framework
The latest update from SLDC is that the Allocations of land DPD will go out for public consultation in early 2011.
Parking
Two areas of concern within the village have been reported to the Parish Council, they are:-
1. Between the Post Office and Beathwaite Close.
2. Opposite the gate to the playing fields
Please take care when parking in these areas, please be aware of visibility and access for other vehicles.
Dog Fouling
This is still an issue within the village and we would like to remind dog owners to clean up after their dogs. If you see any irresponsible dog owners report them to SLDC 0n 0845 05044434 – there is a £50 fine.
Request for 1st Responders
A request for more first responders has been made, please contact Brian Dawson x60475 if you are interested in this rewarding and worthwhile role.
Highway Steward dates
The next visit of the Highway Steward is due to take place w/c 6/12/10. Please advise Councillor Atfield at Central Stores if you spot any small jobs that the Highway Steward can do on his visit.
Any urgent potholes and problems on the roads please contact the Highways Hotline on 0845 609 6609
Levens Brownies
Levens Brownies are celebrating 80 years of Levens Brownies and 100 years of Girl Guiding. To commemorate this they are planning to plant a time capsule underground at Nelson Square which they hope will be dug up in 50 years time, maybe by family members of the current Brownies.
Planning Procedure
Levens Charity
The Charity was set up using the proceeds from the sale of the Lowgate Allotments which have been invested in trust, any income generated is put back into the Charity. The Charity will help any charitable purpose for the general benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of Levens. Criteria for application and application forms can be obtained from the Clerk.
When considering Grant Applications the criteria used at present, except in exceptional circumstances, is outlined below.

*Groups should have a Bank account, a Constitution and be run by a Committee (except in exceptional circumstances).
*Grants are only given for non-recurring expenditure except in the case of pump-priming grants.
*The Charity will not normally fund the total cost of the project and own fund-raising must be evidenced
