Levens Quilters is a group interested in patchwork, quilting and associated needlework techniques. Since the size of the group exceeded the capacity of Levens' Institute we meet at The Athenaeum, Leasgill, normally on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7.30 - 9.30pm.
This year is a special year as we celebrate 21 years since the group was formed.
Our activities are varied. Many of the monthly meetings include a talk from a local or nationally recognised speaker, They generally bring a selection of their work to share with us. On some occasions we have a sewing evening usually with a range of projects or activities led by our members. At other times we invite a trader to come along to show us new products with examples of how they have been used. Each evening has a raffle, refreshments and "Show and tell" where members may bring their finished items to share with us. We have a well stocked library of patchwork and quilting books which members may borrow for a small fee.
We also provide a number of workshop activity days for both beginners and experienced quilters. Some of these are led by people who have given the talk or by our own members.
Every two years we exhibit our work at a show which we organise in the local area. It attracts visitors from all over the country. The profits from the show are donated to charities. Our show in June 2010 enabled us to donate £2300 to the local air ambulance services who operate in our area. This year our show is 9th June and 10th June 2012 at the Heaves Hotel, nr Brettagh Holt roundabout on the A590.
Annual membership is £17. Visitors are welcome and pay a small fee to attend the monthly meeting. Workshop prices vary.
