Crossways Crafts meets every Wednesday morning in the Methodist Chapel between 10am and 12noon. The group was originally formed by several like minded ladies many years ago, to provide a little space of time in a busy week to be creative, and enjoy the friendship of other ladies learning together new crafting skills. We meet for two hours and bring along our own handicrafts including knitting, except for one week every month when we join together to learn something new, demonstrated by one of our group. Some of the group donate hundreds of knitted items to International Charities, and we also make over a thousand recycled Christmas and Birthday cards each year for several local charities, to enable them to raise funds through their own outlets and have supported the charity S.O.S. and Northern Air Ambulance.
We try to offer a varied programme of demonstrations throughout the year, and the group can make and take something different each time. In 2009 the demonstrations have included:-
*Rag rug making *Making a cotton tote bag *Creative raised embroidery *Finger weaving *Various methods of making greetings cards *Making a Christmas decoration
Our group is one of mixed ages, and of course crafting is not compulsory, simply join us for a chat and a coffee, but craft is addictive. We make a small charge only to cover our costs.
At our October event we decorated a polystyrene ball and made a sequined Christmas tree bauble, at our November event we will make a woven Christmas tree decoration and in December we will make a greenery arrangement for the table. Before our short break over Christmas and New year we will go out for coffee and mince pies together at a local hotel.
